Where Our Hope Comes From

We are so encouraged that Dad loved the Lord and is settling into his new home in heaven and being reunited with those who have gone before. We are so grateful that Dad made the choice to accept Jesus as his personal savior and loved hearing him share this invitation for everyone to many he encountered over the years and especially being first hand witnesses to this with all of the people we've encountered as a result of his accident. He longed for everyone to join the family of Christ. We continue to pray that God would use all of this and that each of you who are reading this would know that if you haven't accepted Jesus for yourself, we would love to connect with you more about this and we are praying for you, YES YOU!! specifically! We love you all and Jesus loves you, too, and he is right here with us, especially in this time. And He wants you to join our Spiritual Family in relationship with Him. If you are interested in knowing more about how to join our Family, this is

Heaven Day 2: Hope to the Hopeless

Image
Today is day 2 of Charles' permanent life eternal in Heaven with the Almighty.  It is also day 2 for those of us who remain on Earth and must live out the rest of our days without him in our lives.  The last 20 hours have been filled with pain, sorrow, lamenting, hopelessness, fear, anger, and so much more.  But they have also been filled with love, laughter, joy, peace, gratitude, thanksgiving, and even more!  Praise God that our hope is not in things of this world.  Praise Him that this is not the end.   We don't understand why.  Why would God bring Charles this far and then allow this?  Why would something like this happen when he was doing so well?  Why couldn't the outcome have been different?  We also wonder what if.  What if things had been different?  What if he didn't have the surgery?  What if he didn't leave the hospital? These are normal questions and ones we grapple with minute by minute, hour by hour.  HOWEVER, we do not have to stay in that place.  &

Day 101- November 28: Dad Moved into His Heavenly Home Today

Image
It is with saddened hearts that we share with you that Chas/Dad passed away this afternoon. It was all very sudden and Amy, Heather and Scotty were all present and responded very quickly. They were encouraged by EMS that they took all the right steps but believe that he had a stroke (the coroner confirmed that it was actually a massive pulmonary embolism) and were not able to revive him. We continue to trust in God, knowing that no matter our circumstances He is a good and faithful Father even in the hard and difficult things we face. Even today we have been reminded by all the blessings and miracles we've witnessed along this journey and continue to be touched by the ways that God used Chas to reach many lives. Dad had just reached out to several people this morning and shared with our family:   "We know at least one we can share... accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior as they were at my bedside during my first stay in hospital!  I was so stoked.. we prayed for them for years!

Day 100- November 27th: Discharged!

Image
Today has been such a blessing! Dad was discharged from Upstate and has returned to "Castleview"!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³  Dad did well on the drive and made it home before any snow storms! πŸ˜€ Thank you for your prayers!!  The JP drain was removed from his head yesterday as the drainage had essentially resolved and met criteria for removal. πŸ™Œ A not so comfortable experience but  made it through! Thankful to have his dad there for support during the removal and got a few extra stitches as part of this process. Repeat CT scan was good!  Yesterday had more opportunities to get out of bed and visit with family. Pain had overall been well managed with Tylenol for 24hrs plus. Today, got clearance to shower and had incision cleaned. Learned how to care for the incision and signs to monitor for infection/complications. Plan for follow up in 2wks with neurosurgery to have stitches removed. Dad reports already feeling an overall improvement in mood and feeling "more normal"!πŸ™Œ❤  Must say,

Day 98- November 25th: Post-Op Day 1

I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] Philippians 4:13 AMP https://bible.com/bible/1588/php.4.13.AMP   Thank you for continuing to pray! Dad's head pain was better managed throughout the night, and he rested well between every few hour assessments. The jaw pain was more noticeable/significant with eating. Some increased swelling and bruising, as expected, was also present. He worked with the nurse to manage pain versus day-time drowsiness related to medication side effects. Was able to sit in the chair for a couple hours. Waiting for PT and OT to evaluate prior to discharge; however, with weekend schedule, was not evaluated. JP drain from head will need to be removed before discharge, likely Monday. Would like to see less drainage before re

Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty: Neuro ICU Evening Update

Thank you thank you thank you for your fervent prayers!!! We praise God for bringing Dad through today's brain surgery!! A miracle yet again! And what an experience to encounter some of the lovely people God placed on Dad's path the first time for them to see what progress God has made in healing Dad so quickly, knowing how far He has come already and what a miracle it all is! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ» Thank you, God!! Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty: Neuro ICU

Dad's in a room in the ICU for now for the team to keep a close eye on him post op but will probably move him tomorrow. The nurses say he's doing and looking great! Mom and I have been able to see him. ❤️ He has a bad headache but they're working on managing his pain. ❤️

Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty: In Recovery

Dad's officially in recovery now.πŸŽ‰πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»❤️ Still waiting to see him.

Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty Update

Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty

Dad is now in the OR and the surgery is expected to take 2-3 hours. Thank you for your continued prayers over him and the medical team! ❤️

Day 97 - November 24: Cranioplasty Pre-Op

Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:14 (NLT) Today's verse of the day is most timely as Dad prepares for his cranioplasty today, where the surgeons will replace the bone flap they removed to save his life on August 20. It's amazing that they will be able to replace a portion of a his skull with a synthetic prosthetic held by titanium screws.  The even more amazing thing, though, is the ways that God has orchestrated it all, in knitting him together before he was even born and writing his, and our, story in the way He has all along. He knows us in the way only He can, in and out, thought and muscle and bone and cell... All of it, God is in control and knows all.  We are praying over Dad right now: Oh Christ, who is my peace, Be now my peace.  We give it all to you, God, knowing full well that it is You alone who holds us in Your hand. You are our protector, our comforter, our peace, our provider and our mira

Day-96 November 23,2023-Happy Thanksgiving

Day-96 November 23,2023. Words cannot express the gratefulness / thankfulness I feel at this Thanksgiving, 2023. Psalm 91:4-He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Wow, as you know, He brought me back from the brink of death and through the hard work of physical therapy to bring me to a point where I feel, while not fully recovered, as "normal" as anyone would think considering where I was about 3 months ago! I can't stop thanking and praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His goodness and healing touch.  I need to post today to remind everyone to stay faithful in your prayers as Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is my next big step as I go for cranioplasty surgery to replace the part of my skull they had to remove in August! Our thanksgiving gathering is going to be very small as everyone is being very respectful of my situation and my desire to stay "illness free" pr

Days 54 - 64– October 12 - 22...Chas' first post!

Days 54 - 64– October 12 - 22.   I give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds. Psalms 9:1.  I'm getting to the point where they are going to let me do my own blog post. I have a high standard to live up to…πŸ˜‰! The Lord  not only saved me but has gone ahead and continued the healing process in me. Today was a big outing for me. Amy and Mikayla took me to my follow up appointment with the neurosurgeon, and others, including a CT scan. Everyone was happy and impressed with my brain's healing progress. Personally, I had never seen the "before surgery scan" so I was pretty shocked at all the damage that had been done. We were all excited by all the positive comments from the neurosurgery team. They were quite frank about the timeline for the next move. We were told that discussions for the repair, cranioplasty, don't normally even start until the patient is at least 3 months out from th

Day 44- October 2: Update

‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬ [5] and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. This past week of settling in and creating new routines and learning and growing together has been busy and full and tiring and good! We've scheduled appointments and followed up with insurance stuff and gone to an appointment and had visitors and good days and bad days and time continues on.  Dad continues to make progress as his brain continues to heal. And he's getting lots of practice with day to day tasks that we weren't sure if he'd be able to do in the midst of our hospital time with the future unclear. But he can do them! He can brush his teeth and get ready for the day, etc. And he can get in and out of bed/chair and walk. And he can talk and write and think and remember! And we continue to praise God for all the pieces we were unsure of and the ways he continues to work. We ask for prayer for

Lots of preparations today for Dad to come to Castle View! Mom is all moved in and settled tonight and we're so excited and in awe of what God has done in just one month. Death to life in HIM!! We are so grateful for the hope we have in Christ! It's what sees us through each day. Isn't that the hope He offers each of us daily in Him? For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. πŸŒ™ Overnight Report:  Dad's doing okay but he didn't sleep last night again. He only got about 30 minutes yesterday from what she said. He is obviously confused which at this point a good chunk of that is related to the fact that he hasn't slept!
