Day 100- November 27th: Discharged!

Today has been such a blessing! Dad was discharged from Upstate and has returned to "Castleview"!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³  Dad did well on the drive and made it home before any snow storms! πŸ˜€ Thank you for your prayers!!

The JP drain was removed from his head yesterday as the drainage had essentially resolved and met criteria for removal. πŸ™Œ A not so comfortable experience but  made it through! Thankful to have his dad there for support during the removal and got a few extra stitches as part of this process. Repeat CT scan was good!

Yesterday had more opportunities to get out of bed and visit with family. Pain had overall been well managed with Tylenol for 24hrs plus. Today, got clearance to shower and had incision cleaned. Learned how to care for the incision and signs to monitor for infection/complications. Plan for follow up in 2wks with neurosurgery to have stitches removed. Dad reports already feeling an overall improvement in mood and feeling "more normal"!πŸ™Œ❤

Must say, it was an awesome sight to be greeted by his big smile as he practically jumped out of the chair to walk over to us unassisted with open arms and hugs- all dressed for the day and ready to go! Praise God to be a witness of His protection and miraculous healing power!

We've continued to have exceptional care at Upstate and can't say enough thanks for those who invested quality care and compassion during both hospital stays.

For many of us standing in close support to Dad in all he's been through over the last 3 months & 1 week (100 days), you don't forget many parts of this journey. From the initial call, the prayerful waiting during the surgeries, all the uncertainties along the way, to every single answer to prayer and miracle witnessed, the outpouring of love, generosity, and support from family, friends, strangers- God orchestrated it all. Every single person put in his path at the right place and the right time. Our hearts overflow with thanks and praise to God for his faithfulness and deliverance.

We know God uses the difficulties in our lives as opportunities for us to grow and to strengthen our faith. No one gets to choose what hardships they will face, but we do have a choice when we are in the trials- ultimately, we can choose to turn away from Him or turn toward Him. We don't have to understand why things happen the way they do. Sometimes we can look back and see a glimpse of those answers; still- more often, we won't know the answers this side of heaven. So, we choose to put our hope and our trust in Jesus Christ who meets us where we are- full of love and grace. He can abundantly supply all our needs, in every season, in every trial. Thanking God for allowing the highs and lows of this season to draw us closer to Him.

As Dad was getting ready to leave the hospital, we had an opportunity to reflect full circle on the work of God's hand along this journey. Mom and Dad were able to reconnect with some of the individuals who helped in his care the first time around. Many still saying how Dad is one in a small percentage of the success stories after such a traumatic accident. Truly a walking miracle.

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
