Day 7 - August 26: Afternoon Update

Update:

Chest x-ray is improved from yesterday🙌🏻🎉

MRI - findings stable🎉🎉🎉
No ligament injury/FX of spine
C8 pinched nerve, not concerned
Disc protrusion could be age related not necessarily injury related
Not surprised by imaging findings but expected, stable
Nothing has worsened
Chance of improvement is good🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️🎉 (we didn't really discuss prognosis specifically)

Trying to wean sedation, started consistent fentanyl (pain & sedation) next steps: wean off sedation

They discontinued prophylactic keppra (only goes for 7 days) 

They stopped vancomycin antibiotic since it's not MRSA

He's still on Cefapim antibiotic for infection

Q2h neurological checks

Day 100- November 27th: Discharged!

Today has been such a blessing! Dad was discharged from Upstate and has returned to "Castleview"!!! 🥳🥳🥳  Dad did well on the drive and made it home before any snow storms! 😀 Thank you for your prayers!!  The JP drain was removed from his head yesterday as the drainage had essentially resolved and met criteria for removal. 🙌 A not so comfortable experience but  made it through! Thankful to have his dad there for support during the removal and got a few extra stitches as part of this process. Repeat CT scan was good!  Yesterday had more opportunities to get out of bed and visit with family. Pain had overall been well managed with Tylenol for 24hrs plus. Today, got clearance to shower and had incision cleaned. Learned how to care for the incision and signs to monitor for infection/complications. Plan for follow up in 2wks with neurosurgery to have stitches removed. Dad reports already feeling an overall improvement in mood and feeling "more normal"!🙌❤  Must say,
